Economics is a chance for you to take the analytical and critical thinking skills they have developed and apply them to the world of economics, business and finance. It also an opportunity for all students to study how actual companies such as Google, Apple and Toyota have been successful and make economic interpretations of their business models. The skills, which you have learned in my previous Social Studies class, will be applied to foundations of Economics.
During the school year I will emphasize how economics is a scientific study of the scarcity of goods, services and resources of a specific country and how that scarcity will impact markets and people around the world. It can be a difficult class but I can help you by taking confusing economic jargon and simplifying terms, concepts and theories. I will I use the NY Times, the Economics of Seinfeld and Khan Academy, so I can bridge the gap between the textbook and confusing economic concepts. I encourage you to always apply Economics to their daily life by drawing comparisons, understanding trends and recognizing how economic activity is closely intertwined.
During the school year some of the skills that you must master are: - Cornell Notes - Economic article analysis - Student led Socratic Seminar discussions on economic trends - Case studies on FORTUNE 500 companies - Application of responsible economic practices in their own life
How past student have succeeded in Economics is by completing article analyses and simplifying the concepts and ideas in your textbook. Also, through case study presentations of what has worked and what has failed for popular companies, you will not only bring economics to life but will also be prepared for higher-level business courses.
